Provenance: Auction Dorotheum, Vienna, 17th September 1974, lot 126; Private German collection. Richter started his career as a pupil at the Vienna Academy under Thomas Ender and Leopold Kupelwieser. He developed into a successful painter of military scenes and frequently worked at the k.u.k headquarters (1848 and 1859). During the 1870’s Richter often painted for the Imperial couple at Gödöllö, their summer residence.
